Admissions

Going to school far from home is an exciting yet at times a difficult process. At NVU, we work hard to make sure all students feel at home. These are the steps to join our global community:

Step 1.

  • Applicants should first complete the Application;
  • Send the Application, together with copies of the documents necessary for the acquisition of student’s status, to the following email address: admissions@old.newvision.ge;
  • All documents not in English or not accompanied by a notarized English translation, must be translated either into English, French or German and be notarized;
  • Each applicant should enter his or her full name, passport number and desirable program title into the subject line of the email;
  • Within seven days after receiving the application, NVU will arrange a Skype interview with the applicant, confirm that the potential student meets all the necessary admission requirements and consequently send a Conditional Offer Letter.

Step 2.

  • Following the receipt of the Conditional Offer Letter, each applicant must pay the initial tuition fee and submit his or her full name and passport number in the Purpose of Transfer line. After receiving payment, NVU will send a Fee Acknowledgement Letter to the applicant;
  • Applicants should send the Power of Attorney to NVU authorizing NVU to represent the applicant with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia;
  • NVU will apply to the National Centre for Educational Quality Enhancement and request the recognition of applicant’s education status acquired abroad with the aim to grant the right to enroll in the higher educational institution without sitting for the Unified National Examinations/Unified Master’s Examination;
  • Consequently,  NVU will issue the enrollment document (granting student status) and an invitation to Georgia – the Unconditional Offer Letter.

The applicants for a Bachelor and One-Cycle programs will be required to submit the following documents:

1. Copy of the International passport, for stateless persons – a copy of a residence certificate;

2. One of the following qualification documents: 

2.1 A copy of a school-leaving certificate;

2.2 A copy of the document, providing for credits earned at a foreign higher education institution – for applicants, who study/studied and earned credits at a foreign higher education institution, duly authorized commensurate with the law in force of the country concerned;

3. A photo (3X4);

4. One of the English language proficiency documents, envisaged by Rules for Determination English Language Proficiency (if there is such);

5. If names in a passport and educational document are not the same – affidavit from the court, confirming that the both documents belong to the same person.

The applicants for a Master’s program will be required to submit the following documents:

1. Copy of the International passport, for stateless persons – a copy of a residence certificate;

2. One of the following qualification documents:

2.1 Bachelor’s Diploma

2.2 A copy of the respective higher education qualification document, issued by an authorized higher education institution of a foreign country;

2.3 A copy of the document, providing for credits earned at a foreign higher education institution – for applicants, who are/were taking Master’s courses and earned credits at a foreign higher education institution, duly authorized commensurate with the law in force of the country concerned;

3. The applicants, who enrolled in a higher education institution commensurate with the Procedure of Enrolment without taking the Unified National Examination will be additionally required to present the following documents:

3.1 The copies of the qualification document acquired as a result of enrolment through the Procedure of Enrolment without taking the Unified National Examination – Diploma and Diploma Supplement;

3.2 An act of the head of the higher education institution, certifying the enrolment of the applicant concerned for the first cycle of higher education at a higher education institution through the Procedure of Enrolment without taking the Unified National Examination;

4. A photo (3X4);

5. One of the English language proficiency documents, envisaged by Rules for Determination English Language Proficiency (if there is such);

6. If names in a passport and educational document are not the same – affidavit from the court, confirming that the both documents belong to the same person. 

Preconditions for the enrollment for a Ph.D. program:

  1. A completed electronic application form;
  2. Copy of the International passport, for stateless persons – a copy of a residence certificate;
  3. A qualification document (Master’s Diploma or equalized thereto qualification document);
  4. A photo (3X4);
  5. The document certifying the payment of the tuition fee;
  6. An international certificate certifying, at least B2 level proficiency in the English or other European language (German, French) or any other language proficiency document;
  7. Well-founded recommendation of the curator, which may contain some information about the education, working experience or earlier academic activities of the applicant.

Foreign Student Admission Criteria to the Medical Doctor Program, based on the 1997 Lisbon Convention Requirements on Admission of Qualified Applicants

I. Proof of Proficiency in English at the B2 Level (specifically English for Medical Purposes Exam – EMPE, with a passing percentage of 70%)

If a student scores 60% or more (60-69 %) on the EMPE, NVU offers preparatory courses in Medical English (free of charge).

If a student scores 50% or more (50-59 %) on the EMPE, NVU offers general and Medical English preparatory courses (free of charge).

All students are granted a second opportunity to pass the English Exam.

II. MCAT (Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems), with a passing percentage of 50% or a Biology & Chemistry knowledge certification

Prerequisites for exemption from MCAT: 90 and more percentage in a minimum of two science related subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environment, whereby either Biology or Chemistry shall be included), based on the student’s certificate/transcript from his or her prior school.

In case the student has received 32 or more on the MCAT exam or has 90% or more in Biology or Chemistry, based on the prior school’s certificate/transcript, and simultaneously satisfies the English Language admission criteria, NVU offers MCAT preparation courses (free of charge).

After completing the appropriate preparatory courses, the student has the opportunity to retake the MCAT exam (requiring a passing percentage of 50%).

The requisite B2 level proficiency in English (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is proved by:

  • A document certifying the passing of a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): in the case of taking an internet-based test (iBT) – at least 87 points, in the case of a computer-based test (CBT) – at least 227 points and in the case a paper-based test (PBT) – at least 567 points;
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) – at least B2 level;
  • A document certifying the successful passing of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – at least 6.0 points;
  • Any other language proficiency document certifying passing of a field-specific or specialized examination, which documents confirms B2 level proficiency in English by a decision of an appropriate academic board.

Students are exempted from the obligation to present documentation of  English language proficiency whose native language is English or whose competence is proved by: 

  • a degree awarded after taking an English language programme, or at least two years of study in a country where English is both the language of instruction/examination and the native language;
  • studying English as the first foreign language at a compulsory/upper secondary school over a period of a minimum 7 years in a country, member of the EU and/or the Council of Europe;
  • an examination taken within the framework of the educational programme of a foreign secondary school or summative evaluation, which should not be less than 70 percent of the overall evaluation; 
  • succeeding in a written or/and oral examination/interview held by the English language professors of the University.  

An examination in the English language aims at the verification of the compatibility of the language proficiency of an applicant with minimum requirements envisaged by a programme. The examination serves for: 

  • the identification of the proficiency level, what enables an applicant to get registered for the components of an educational programme;
  • the selection of an adequate group for further learning, meaning the selection of the adequate one from English language components of various levels, envisaged by the programme; and/or
  • the determination of the reasonability of offering an additional component (beyond the curriculum) by the University, when the required level of communication competence can be attained only through taking such a special course. It is also possible for the necessity of studying the terminology of Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and subjects to be provided for.

NVU implements transparent and consistent fee policy which does not alter throughout entire period of study. All intermediaries and agencies dully authorized are obliged to follow it. No other charges unless specific service offered (i.e. flight tickets, airport transfer, hostel accommodation or room rental, insurance etc.) may be charged.

Following NVU mision that endavour equal access to education for students from around the world 25% University Scholarship is applicable to students who succesfully pass elected courses during two consecutive semesters.

Fee covers all costs related to teaching process, i.e. teaching materials, language enhancement courses (if needed), acknowledgment of prior learning as well as remaining student services.

Summary

  

 

Southampton where, as an MRC Training Fellow, he did his PhD under Professor Sir George Alberti.  His work at that time investigated metabolic disturbances in liver disease and metabolic aspects of endocrinology. He moved to Newcastle where he was First Assistant to Professor Reg Hall.  He subsequently obtained a Wellcome Senior Clinical Research Fellowship, investigating metabolism in diabetes.
