Parasport Development Association

New Vision University in partnership with the Georgian National Paralympic Committee founded the “Georgian Children’s Parasport Development Association”. The aim of the Association is to develop children’s parasport and paralympic campaign in Georgia; also, it aims to organize and execute national championships as well as open championships and sports competitions in paralympic and not paralympic sports for children with disabilities.

On November 13-14, eleven athletes of the Children’s Parasport Development Association of Georgia participated in Children’s Paralympic Games, in Sumqayit (Azerbaijan), in following disciplines: Table Tennis, Powerlifting and Swimming.

In Table Tennis Giorgi Jincharadze and Aleksandre Dzabakhidze won the Gold and Silver medals, respectively. Among the Georgian sportsmen, awards in Powerlifting were distributed as follows: Mate Kardava – Gold medal, Lasha Bregadze – Silver medal, Nika Buachidze and Ioane Ratiani won Bronze medals. In addition, Lasha Bregadze won the Bronze medal in swimming.

Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee congratulated Georgian children on great success and emphasized the prospects of the development of parasport in Georgia. This success has been significantly contributed by the efforts of coaches Nino Ninoshvili and Giorgi Khvedelidze.

Georgian athletes successfully participated in the international games in Ganja held by the Azerbaijan Children’s Paralympic Association. They acquired one silver (Lasha Bregadze) and two bronze medals (Mamuka Parsagishvili and Giorgi Uchava). The participation of the athletes in the event was supported by the Georgian Children’s Parasport Development Association.

 

Training space for the Archery was created at the university eco-campus, which involves 70m shooting distance, so-called the summer distance, where para-athletes are trained by the coaches from Sports Club “Geogen”.

The space allocation was implemented within the framework of the University and the Children’s Parasport Development Association joint program, which aims to improve the training conditions for para-athletes.

Besides, para-athletes will actively engage in making young people interested in this sport and will contribute to the preparation of future athletes.

On June 19th, New Vision University hosted the presentation of the mission and objectives of the Children’s Parasport Development Association. The association was founded by New Vision University in partnership with the Georgian National Paralympic Committee. The event was attended by the heads of Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia, National Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee, Tbilisi City Hall Sports Service Department, Tbilisi Parasport Development Center, National Sports Federations as well as representatives of the business sector. Famous faces of the society and para-sport players participated in the show tournaments.

Southampton where, as an MRC Training Fellow, he did his PhD under Professor Sir George Alberti.  His work at that time investigated metabolic disturbances in liver disease and metabolic aspects of endocrinology. He moved to Newcastle where he was First Assistant to Professor Reg Hall.  He subsequently obtained a Wellcome Senior Clinical Research Fellowship, investigating metabolism in diabetes.
